Stop number two - the diamond in the rough among the post-game bars, Mercury. This small, new sports bar is located on Spruce, 2 blocks west of the stadium, with a view of the new stadium from its large windows and lively patio bar.

Normally when you hear “sports bar” the first thing that comes to mind is not the word trendy, but that’s just what Mercury is. You’re not surrounded by taxidermy or sports memorabilia that dates back to the invention of baseball, but make no mistake this is a great place for Cardinals fans. Open when the Redbirds are playing at home, this small restaurant and bar is the perfect spot to watch the game (on four, 50-inch plasma TVs), grab a pre-game drink and tasty barbeque, and enjoy a post-game celebration.

While relaxing at the patio bar, watching the end of a game I asked a couple of bar regulars (yeah, it’s new and already has regulars, which should say a lot for this place) what they like best about the place. The general consensus was the atmosphere and they love that there is a new, unique place downtown to have a drink and catch the game. With great drink specials, a live DJ every Friday and Saturday, an eclectic menu, and a location only stone’s throw from the stadium, Mercury is definitely a hidden treasure among the ballpark pubs.
